My name is Ivaylo and like you, I am a yogi. I am also a dancer, an Inferno Hot Pilates teacher, and many other things. Here’s a little bit about myself, my journey, and our journey together. When you’re done reading this, my goal is that you will have learnt a little bit more. Not just about me, but maybe about yourself too, as I believe we’re not all that different.
In 2008 I graduated from the National School of Dancing Art in Bulgaria. After 5 years of intense preparation, I started working in a professional dance company straight away. I spent another 5 years with the company, a dream come true! I got to travel and tour the world.
During these years working as a dancer, I injured myself pretty badly. I broke the cruciate ligament on the left knee, and had to have a massive surgery. The recovery wasn’t easy; I had to build up muscles and learn how to walk again. It took months, and a lot of pilates exercises (which at the time, I didn’t even know they were actual pilates moves!). My only focus was getting back in the game, which I did, but at a cost. I was so focused on working on the physical trauma, I had completely ignored the emotional and mental side of it. Even when my body was clearly giving me signals to stop and wait and listen, I kept going. For a few good years things went well, as a dancer and performer I did great, but inside, I never felt the same. After I left the dance company I started working as a freelance dancer and got involved in many different projects. I was looking for new experiences and I received a job offer to work in the UK.
In 2013 I moved to the UK and started working in restaurants. I thought, I would spend a few months exploring the country while working. I was done with dancing professionally but I would still go to a class here and there and doing small gigs as a way of workout. Seeing how quickly I was losing my flexibly and mobility soon saw me severely depressed, and resulted in me completely giving up on any kind of exercising. In my mind I wasn’t good enough anymore, and all the trauma from my past resurfaced, taking its toll on my mental state. You can ignore a problem all you want, but unless you work on it, one day it's going to catch up with you. The months turned into years, until in 2017 I took my first ever yoga class.
Although I had a very good idea of body-movement, I had no clue what to expect. I remember thinking "having that great dancing background I’ll be really good at this", but Oh Boy! I was NOT (ha-ha!). It was a BEGINNERS class as well! But I felt good, I felt happy, and so I kept going. Not long after, in the very first month of 2018 I found myself in the Hot Room Leeds. Let’s just say I was not prepared for what was to come. I’ve never liked heat but somehow, I managed to stay there for the whole 90 minutes and even do some postures! The way I felt after was just incredible, I was happy, I was smiling. I had never felt like that after a dance class, it was love at first sight. I was getting stronger mentally and physically. I was happy with myself and I wanted more and more. The 30-Day Intro just wasn’t enough so I became a member of the studio. I’ve managed to work on my traumas both mentally and physically. The practice has healed me in so many ways.
At the beginning of 2019 I practiced my first ever Inferno Hot Pilates (IHP) class at the studio and I was changed again. I have found another way to stay even more focused, and to elevate my practice even more. Pretty soon I found myself on a plane to Mallorca, on my way to a teacher training lead by the founder of IHP, Gabriella Walters. It was the most incredible experience of my life.
As an IHP teacher, giving that extra push and encouragement has become my mission. No matter if you’re in class and you want to finish your workout strong, or if you just want a change in your life in general. Anything you want to do you can, because I did, and you can do it even better. I’m here to give you the support you need, to move forward. I’m cheering for you, all high fives! You are in charge of your life. You got this!
I communicate through dance and movement and yoga and it’s the same when you come to my classes. I want you to get an experience from the moment you walk into the studio, be on a journey towards your goals whatever they might be. You are unlimited!
Dance will always be a part of my life, finding a way to sneak back in unexpectedly, I just have to let it. Just like yoga or pilates, or anything you know is good for you. You are in charge, you are in control!
Whenever I am at the studio, I enjoy connecting with myself and I like to see you do that as well. I love being connected with everyone in the room, no matter if I’m teaching or practicing - the sense of community is amazing.
I never thought I would be in the position I am now…being of service, making a difference. I’m driven to support and encourage you to change, to transform, and to heal.
